Baja Data Logger (WIP)
Target Capabilities
Shock positioning (during testing only)
RPMs at Engine, CVT output, differential output
Throttle, Break, and steering
Vehicle position (more precise than standard GPS +/- 1.5m)
Transmit data wirelessly
Entertainment for driver (subway surfer videos)
Requirements
Waterproof (Needs to sustain full submersion and pressurized blast)
Light weight (Goal: Full system weight of sub 1lb)
Expandable
Easy to use
Shock and vibration resistant
Measure strain gauge data
Current State
Battery powered strain gauge logging in a prototype form, made with breakout boards and powered by dead vapes collected around campus
V0.1 of custom PCB for strain gauge data collection debugged as far as possible and V0.2 designed and ordered for further development
V0.1 of steering wheel display prototyped and V1.0 ordered
Next Steps
Assemble and debug V0.2 of the axle torque pcbs and finalize V1.0 for release to other SAE teams
Assemble and debug V1.0 of the steering wheel display unit, implement dashboards and flappy bird for driver entertainment
Finalize design of custom hall effect angle sensor boards that will sense everything from suspension angle, throttle, and steering positions
Design board to convert hall effect RPM sensors to CAN connected sensors
